Hey there, fellow baseball mamas (and dads)! It's me - Emily, your friendly neighborhood organizing expert who also moonlights as a magician when it comes to keeping white baseball pants...well, white. What can I say? Its become a passion of mine and I feel the need to pass along the knowledge to you all if you don't already know the process.
Let’s be real: those kids put on a pair of white baseball pants and can't resist sliding into second base faster than a penguin on ice. But not to worry! I’m sharing my not-so-secret formula for spotless pants. Grab your OxiClean, a bar of Fels Naptha and a bit of patience, and let’s get to work.
Step 1: Meet Fels Naptha – Your New Best Friend
I’m not even sure what wizardry went into making this bar soap, but Fels Naptha is basically the MVP of laundry. I order mine off Amazon, and trust me, it’s cheap & lasts forever. Get those stains wet and rub this magic bar directly onto them like you’re a laundry Picasso. Get all the grimy spots - the knees, the backside—anywhere that dirt and grass had a field day. This is your pre-game prep for those pants.
I don't use a scrub brush. I've found that it wears pants out more quickly, so I just use the fabric to gently scrub back and forth until suds form and the dirt begins to lift.
Step 2: Soak It or Spray It – OxiClean to the Rescue
Now, this is a real choose-your-own-adventure moment. You can go one of two ways here:
Option 1 (my preference): Soak in OxiClean powder. Fill up your tub, sink, or even a bucket with warm water, sprinkle in some OxiClean powder, and let those pants take a nice, long bath. I usually give them an hour minimum —plenty of time to sip a glass of wine or tackle another load of laundry (because, you know, it never ends).
Option B: Spray it directly. If soaking feels like a little too much effort, no judgment! Spray OxiClean right on those stains and let it sit for a few minutes. Either way, it's is like a magic eraser for grass, dirt, and anything else those pants came into contact with.
Step 3: Wash & Pray
Once you’ve tackled the stains head-on, throw those pants in the washing machine with your usual detergent. Here’s where I cross my fingers and pray to the laundry gods (but I’ve been doing this long enough to say with confidence that it works). I usually run it on a normal cycle, but you do you.
PRO TIP: Avoid the Dryer for Round One
If those pants come out and you see a ghost of a stain still hanging around, skip the dryer for now. Heat can set the stain, so go back in with your Fels Naptha and OxiClean, and repeat the process.
That’s it! It’s not rocket science, but it is a little bit of laundry magic. Keeping white pants white isn’t easy, but my goodness, they look adorable on those little baesballers. And if all else fails, just remember: a little dirt never hurt anyone, and it definitely adds character!
Tell me: what do YOU use to keep those white baseball pants clean?
